Debuts:

2 months after it left the countdown, Not At This Party reentered. It's a great song, but did it really need to reenter? It's not doing that well on pop radio.

Now onto our only new song this week. Machine Gun Kelly returns to the countdown with cliché, after having that super mid song Lonely Road last year. Luckily, cliché is so much better than Lonely Road. The production is super fun and feels nostalgic, and Machine Gun Kelly sounds great as per usual.

Countdown Extra: SIENNA SPIRO - Dream Police

Biggest Jump Of The Week: ROSÉ - Messy [+9]

Biggest...DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Teddy Swims - Bad Dreams [-5]

Last year's #1 song: Hozier - Too Sweet (5/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: RAYE - Genesis, pt. ii

Least favorite song last year: Halsey - The End

Most missed song: The Chainsmokers/Emily Warren - Side Effects (2018)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Milky Chance - Passion

Oh joy, we're starting off with a random nobody called Haven Madison with Castle. Actually, this isn't a complete nobody. Daniel actually showed me one of her songs last year called Monster, which was quite good. Castle, on the other hand, is the opposite of good. This is just way too boring.

Ed Sheeran collabs with some Indian singer named Arijit Singh with Sapphire. I'm not sure why Hits 1 credits Arijit because he barely has any vocals and he isn't credited on Spotify. This is fine. The Indian production is pretty fun and Ed sounds good, but this is just a bit forgettable.

Oh lordy, we have more Sabrina Carpenter because she wasn't overrated and annoying enough already. Manchild isn't actually that bad. The production is pretty fun I guess, but this isn't as good as Busy Woman.

Addison Rae has finally released her first album, and she's here with Money is Everything. Why is she only capable of making weird music? The production is pretty fun but it's a bit too weird and forgettable.

After being released last week, Hits 1 finally decided to pick up on Crash Adams' new song New Heart. This is a bit different than what they usually make. This has more of an EDM feel. This is yet another bop from them, but it's one of their weaker songs.

This is just getting ridiculous at this point, Hits 1 literally has to pick up on every Jessie Murph song. But Touch Me Like a Gangster is actually good? She isn't doing that weird annoying yell singing she does in Blue Strips, and the production is actually decent.

Why the hell is Hits 1 picking up on some random 5 year old song from 2020? Some producer named SUPER-Hi collabed with female duo NEEKA, who actually consists of Katy Tiz, who had that weird song on Hits 1 in 2015 called Whistle While You Work It. This song doesn't seem to be trending anywhere, so I'm not sure why Hits 1 has picked up on this. This is a pretty fun dance pop song, but this is kinda forgettable.

Oh joy, another Daniel Hits of the Future plant Alexander Stewart makes his Hits 1 debut with Here Again. Daniel showed me one of his songs Put You First last year, and it was decent. Here Again is more the same. His voice is good but the production is just so forgettable.

Exits:

  • The Paradox - Do Me Like That [5]
  • Miley Cyrus - Easy Lover [1]
  • Reneé Rapp - Leave Me Alone [2]
  • People R Ugly - DOULOVEME [3]
  • Rihanna - Friend Of Mine [3]
  • Laufey - Tough Luck [3]
  • Michael Clifford - cool [9]

Leave Me Alone, Do Me Like That, and Tough Luck were amazing and deserved better. Especially Tough Luck which was just starting to grow on me. Easy Lover finds itself in the abyss. And the rest won't be missed.

Blurb Me Like a Gangster:

We lost toxic till the end and The Giver. toxic till the end was getting quite annoying and really needed to leave. And RIP to The Giver, I didn't think it would flop this hard. It finally ends her perfect streak of every song that entered the countdown reaching #1. Which means the perfect streak still only belongs to Daniel Powter.

This is getting ridiculous now. NOKIA has been rotting in the bottom 5 of the countdown for 2 months now. Just jump or leave or do literally anything else besides take up space!

Good News really needs to be leaving instead of jumping.

Why is Abracadabra still #2? This really needs to start dropping soon.

How has Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else been longer at #1 than Beautiful Things? There's no way it's bigger than Beautiful Things. Can Busy Woman just hit #1 instead already so we can get it over with?

That's all for now, see you all next week!

  1. Imo this was one of the worst hits 1 weeks ever, even aside from Tough Luck dropping out of hitbound

  5. Hey Ethan, can you listen to Charlotte Sands - Hush? I think you'll really like it. It's like her cover of Miss Murder in that it's punk rock but its original and still great.
