Debuts:

Benson Boone brings his second song on the countdown with Slow It Down. This is great but not as great as Beautiful Things. Just like Beautiful Things, Slow It Down starts off slow but gets amazing by the end.

so american makes its way out of the abyss. I don't think this has been pushed to pop so I'm not sure why Hits 1 needs two Olivia Rodrigo songs on the countdown. This is kinda fun but not as good as obsessed.

Hozier makes his first countdown debut in 9 years since Someone New in 2015, with Too Sweet. This has grown on me a lot. This is extremely catchy and Hozier sounds great.

Countdown Extra: JVKE - clouds

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Shinedown - A Symptom Of Being Human [+16]

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Taylor Swift - Is It Over Now? [-4]

Last year's #1 song: Tiësto/Tate McRae - 10:35 (3/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Fall Out Boy - What a Time To Be Alive

Least favorite song last year: Amelia Moore/jxdn - FUMD

Most missed song: Trevor Moore - High in Church (2015)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Artemas - i like the way you kiss me

Hitbound:

The Beaches - Blame Brett [8]

Doja Cat/Teezo Touchdown - MASC [Debut]

Teddy Swims - The Door [11]

Benson Boone - Cry [Debut]

Glass Animals - Creatures In Heaven [Debut]

Ava Max - My Oh My [Debut]

Imagine Dragons - Eyes Closed [Debut]

Paul Russell - Eat Pray Love [Debut]

Haiden Henderson - hell of a good time [4]

David Guetta/OneRepublic - I Don't Wanna Wait [Debut]

Tori Kelly - thing u do [Debut]

Porter Robinson - Cheerleader [3]

girl in red/Sabrina Carpenter - You Need Me Now? [Debut]

Michael Marcagi - Scared To Start [Debut]

Jagwar Twin - Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa) [15]

Nicky Youre - Part Time Lover [4]

Goodness 10 debuts, let's get started!

Really Hits 1, did we really need more Doja Cat? She's back along with rapper Teezo Touchdown with MASC. This really sucks. It's super boring and weird and they both sound terrible.

Benson Boone just released his first album Fireworks & Rollerblades, and he's here with Cry. This is another amazing song from him. Just like with his other songs it starts off slow but then gets amazing.

Glass Animals are back after not making music for 2 years with Creatures In Heaven. This is super catchy and is so much better than Heat Waves.

Ava Max is here with My Oh My. If the melody sounds familiar, it's because it samples the same Arabic melody that Kesha sampled in Take It Off. This is really good, it reminds me a lot of The Motto.

Another band is back after not making any music for 2 years. Imagine Dragons are here with Eyes Closed. And oh my this is such a banger. The production is really cool and Dan Reynolds sounds amazing.

Paul Russell is back with Eat Pray Love. Not much to say except this is another bop from him.

Everyone's favorite sampling recycler David Guetta is here along with OneRepublic with I Don't Wanna Wait. This time David Guetta decided to sample that meme song Dragostea Din Tei. This is the perfect summer song. The production is amazing and super fun and Ryan Tedder sounds amazing as always

Tori Kelly is back with thing u do. This is another bop from her. I really like the 2000s R&B vibe and her voice is amazing.

Next is a collab between girl in red and Sabrina Carpenter called You Need Me Now. This is pretty fun and they both sound good.

Lastly we have some rando named Michael Marcagi with Scared To Start. Apparently this is top 30 in the US Spotify charts. This is alright. The production is pretty upbeat and he sounds pretty good.

Exits:

Fall Out Boy - So Much (For) Stardust [10]

Camila Cabello/Playboi Carti - I Luv It [1]

Beyoncé/Miley Cyrus - II Most Wanted [1]

JVKE - clouds [1]

Wallows - Calling After Me [2]

Liam Payne - Teardrops [5]

Alec Benjamin - King Size Bed [2]

Kenya Grace - It's Not Fair [3]

Alex Warren - Before You Leave Me [6]

So Much (For) Stardust finally grew on me after 10 weeks, and finds itself in the abyss. clouds and King Size Bed were amazing and deserved better. Good riddance to I Hate It. And the rest were super forgettable.

Abyss

Muni Long - Made For Me

Fall Out Boy - So Much (For) Stardust

Lady Gaga/Ariana Grande - Rain On Me

Jessie Murph/Jelly Roll - Wild Ones

Victoria Monét - On My Mama

UMI/V - wherever u r

Nicki Minaj/Lil Uzi Vert - Everybody

Hayes Warner/Billy B/Kevin Rudolf - Just A Girl

Jelly Roll/Lainey Wilson - Save Me

The Weeknd/JENNIE/Lily-Rose Depp - One Of The Girls

Panic! At The Disco - New Perspective

Jennifer Lopez/Latto - Can't Get Enough

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor

Eat Pray Blurb:

We lost Lovin On Me, Yes I’m A Mess, and greedy. Good riddance to Lovin On Me, it will not be missed. Yes I’m A Mess and greedy were great but were way too old.

A Symptom Of Being Human randomly jumped 16 spots despite being in the bottom 5 of airplay. Ok, then?

Austin has grown on me a lot and it now becomes my purple song.

Saturn is super weird and boring and it now becomes my orange song.

Seriously, Lose Control has been here for over 7 and a half months, is this ever gonna leave?

We really don't need Justin Miderlake in the top 10.

I was hoping Not The 1975 could take the #1 spot next week, but hopefully it can next week.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

24kGoldn (1) - Zestpond's Top 15 - Apr 5, 2024

For Real This Time Pt. 3 - Sabrina Carpenter (1) - Week of Mar 30, 2024

Hey guys, what's up? If you couldn't tell my last post was obviously a prank, Hits 1 did not reduce the countdown to 20 songs. Daniel and I decided to pull an early April Fool's day prank. Here's the real countdown! And no, the "Zestpond album reviews" blog is not from me, it was a prank by Daniel, but you can check it out here: https://zestpondsalbumreviews33.blogspot.com/2024/03/this-guts-review-is-getting-my-old-self.html

Before we get to this week's fresh 30, let's say goodbye to the songs leaving the countdown:

Kenya Grace - Strangers [#10] (22w) [PK: 6]

Ariana Grande/Mariah Carey - yes, and? (Remix) [#8] (10w) [PK: 8]

Tyla - Water [#16] (21w) [PK: 15]

Last week's #1: Dua Lipa - Houdini (8 weeks at #1)

30. Shinedown - A Symptom Of Being Human [Debut]

29. Meghan Trainor/T-Pain - Been Like This [==] (2w) [PK: 29]

28. twenty one pilots - Overcompensate [-2] (3w) [PK: 26]

27. Usher - Kissing Strangers [+1] (4w) [PK: 26]

26. Olivia Rodrigo - obsessed [Debut]

25. Luke Hemmings - Shakes [+5] (2w) [PK: 25]

24. Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me [-6] (21w) [PK: 10]

23. Dasha - Austin [Debut]

2. Dua Lipa - Houdini [-1] (20w)  [PK: 8w @ #1]

1. Sabrina Carpenter - Feather [+1] (17w) [PK: 1 x 1 week]

Debuts:

After being in the abyss for months, Shinedown finally debuts with A Symptom Of Being Human. This is their first appearance on Hits 1 since If You Only Knew in 2010. This is good but kinda forgettable and singer Brent Smith sounds great.

Dasha's Austin finally escapes from the abyss. This has grown on me a lot since it entered hitbound a few weeks ago. This is extremely catchy and Dasha sounds great.

Olivia Rodrigo is back with obsessed, and wow, this might be her best song so far. The pop punk production is amazing and Olivia doesn't sound whiny for once!

Countdown Extra: Benson Boone - Slow It Down

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Selena Gomez - Love On [+9]

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Tie between Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me and Reneé Rapp/Megan Thee Stallion - Not My Fault [-6]

Last year's #1 song: Tiësto/Tate McRae - 10:35 (2/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Tori Kelly - missin u

Least favorite song last year: Amelia Moore/jxdn - FUMD

Most missed song: Drop City Yacht Club/Jeremih - Crickets (2013)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Jack Harris - Careful What You Wish For (the doctor said to)

Hitbound:

Fall Out Boy - So Much (for) Stardust [10]

Camila Cabello/Playboi Carti - I LUV IT (Debut)

Haiden Henderson - hell of a good time [3]

JVKE - clouds (Debut)

Beyoncé/Miley Cyrus - II MOST WANTED (Debut)

Porter Robinson - Cheerleader [2]

Hozier - Too Sweet (Debut)

Nicky Youre - Part Time Lover [3]

Jagwar Twin - Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa) [14]

The Beaches - Blame Brett [7]

Teddy Swims - The Door [10]

Wallows - Calling After Me [2]

Liam Payne - Teardrops [5]

Alec Benjamin - King Size Bed [2]

Kenya Grace - It's not fair [3]

Alex Warren - Before You Leave Me [6]

Camila Cabello releases her first song in 2 years called I LUV IT, and it's mediocre at best. This song is just very strange. The trap production sucks. Camila sounds decent in the versus but the chorus is just her repeating "I luv it" over and over again. And Playboi Carti's verse doesn't really add much.

Beyoncé just released her new album Cowboy Carter, and here she is with Miley Cyrus with II MOST WANTED. Beyonce and Miley sound good but this is just way too boring.

What is this, JVKE can actually make good music? He's back on hitbound with clouds. The production is super catchy (I'm a sucker for a good whistling song) and JVKE sounds great.

Remember Hozier? We haven't seen him on Hits 1 since Someone New in 2015. He's here with Too Sweet. This is pretty upbeat and Hozier sounds great.

Exits:

  • Benson Boone - Slow It Down [1]
  • ZAYN - What I Am [2]
  • 24kGoldn - Clarity [5]

Slow It Down finds itself in the abyss. Clarity was great and deserved better, and What I Am was extremely boring.

Abyss

Harry Styles - Daylight

Olivia Rodrigo - so american

Benson Boone - Slow It Down

Jessie Murph/Jelly Roll - Wild Ones

Victoria Monét - On My Mama

UMI/V - wherever u r

Nicki Minaj/Lil Uzi Vert - Everybody

Hayes Warner/Billy B/Kevin Rudolf - Just A Girl

Jelly Roll/Lainey Wilson - Save Me

The Weeknd/JENNIE/Lily-Rose Depp - One Of The Girls

Panic! At The Disco - New Perspective

Jennifer Lopez/Latto - Can't Get Enough

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor

Why is Daylight back in the abyss? It's been in the abyss for 3 years now...

so american finds itself in the abyss. This is good but not as nearly as good as obsessed.

A Symptom Of Being A Blurb:

We lost Strangers, yes and, and Water. Strangers was amazing but it was super old. Yes and was starting to fade on me. And Water pulled a Calm Down, being on the countdown for ages but never peaking high.

Lovin On Me tied for the biggest drop of the week so hopefully this leaves soon.

Are greedy or Lose Control ever gonna leave?

If Not The 1975 could hit #1 next week that would be great.

We finally have a new #1 this week! After being blocked from #1 for 8 weeks in a row, Feather finally takes the top spot. With this song, Sabrina Carpenter finally scores her first #1 song on the countdown. Training Season is quickly rising on the countdown and in airplay, so hopefully you weren't tired of Dua Lipa being #1.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

Hits 1 reduced the countdown to 20 songs because of Gen Z attention spans - Dua Lipa (9) - Week of Mar 30, 2024

Well, Hits 1 just announced that they are shortening the countdown to 20 songs because, I quote, "Gen Z-ers do not have the attention spans to sit through an entire 30 song countdown." What the heck Hits 1? First you reduce the countdown from 45 to 30 songs, now you're reducing it again to 20 songs. Unbelievable. This means that the abyss is only going to continue to grow and grow!

Before we get to this week's fresh 20, let's say goodbye to the songs leaving the countdown:
  • Ariana Grande/Mariah Carey - yes, and? (Remix) [#8] (10w) [PK: 8]
  • AJR - Yes I’m A Mess  [#9] (22w) [PK: 7]

  • Tate McRae - greedy [#19] (27w) [PK: 11w @ #1]
  • Teddy Swims - Lose Control [#20] (28w) [PK: 2]
  • girl in red - Too Much [#24] (3w) [PK: 24]
  • Selena Gomez - Love On [#25] (4w) [PK: 22]
  • Madison Beer - Make You Mine [#27] (3w) [PK: 27]
  • Luke Hemmings - Shakes [#30] (1w) [PK: 30]

14. twenty one pilots - Overcompensate [+12] (3w) [PK: 14]

13. Dua Lipa - Training Season [-1] (6w) [PK: 12]

12. Ariana Grande - we can’t be friends (wait for your love) [+9] (3w) [PK: 12]

10. Beyoncé - TEXAS HOLD 'EM [+4] (4w) [PK: 10]

9. Noah Kahan - Stick Season [+2] (16w) [PK: 9]

8. Jack Hack Harlow - Lovin On Me  [+10] (21w) [PK: 8]

7. Tate McRae - exes [-3] (19w) [PK: 3]

6. Taylor Swift - Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) [+1] (22w) [PK: 3]

5. Sabrina Carpenter - Feather [-3] (17w) [PK: 2]

4. Benson Boone - Beautiful Things [-1] (9w) [PK: 3]

3. Knox - Not The 1975 [+2] (19w) [PK: 3]

2. Reneé Rapp/Megan Thee Stallion - Not My Fault [+4] (14w) [PK: 2]

1. Dua Lipa - Houdini [==] (20w)  [PK: 9w @ #1]

Debuts:

Despite 11 exits, there was only 1 debut. Olivia Rodrigo is back with obsessed, and oh my, this might be her best song so far. The pop punk production is amazing and Olivia doesn't sound whiny for once!

Countdown Extra: Jagwar Twin - Bad Feeling (really Hits 1, you're letting a 14 week old hitbound song be the countdown extra?)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: twenty one pilots - Overcompensate [+12]

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Tie between Tate McRae - exes and Sabrina Carpenter - Feather [-3]

Last year's #1 song: Tiësto/Tate McRae - 10:35 (2/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Tori Kelly - missin u

Least favorite song last year: Amelia Moore/jxdn - FUMD

Most missed song: Scatman John - Scatman (1995)

Abyss

Benson Boone - Slow It Down

Jessie Murph/Jelly Roll - Wild Ones

Victoria Monét - On My Mama

UMI/V - wherever u r

Nicki Minaj/Lil Uzi Vert - Everybody

Hayes Warner/Billy B/Kevin Rudolf - Just A Girl

Dasha - Austin

Jelly Roll/Lainey Wilson - Save Me

The Weeknd/JENNIE/Lily-Rose Depp - One Of The Girls

Panic! At The Disco - New Perspective

Shinedown - A Symptom of Being Human

Jennifer Lopez/Latto - Can't Get Enough

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor

Gen Z attention span blurbs:

With the countdown reduction we lost 11 songs this week! They were all super old or not that great so they won't be missed.

Dua Lipa the clown is still #1 for a ninth week in a row, despite dropping massively in airplay. This is getting really ridiculous. Everyone is sick and tired of Houdini, it's time for a new #1!

Now it's time to rant on the reduction of the countdown. This is ridiculous! I'm canceling my subscription to SiriusXM and demanding a refund right this instance! There's one thing I want to say to you Hits 1, FUCK YOU SHITS 1!!!!!!

That's all for now, see you all next week!
