Debuts:
Zara Larsson makes her return to the countdown in 2 years since that great but very forgettable song On My Love that flopped harder than J CHRIST with Pretty Ugly. This has grown on me slightly since hearing it on Hits 1 a few times this week. This is pretty fun, but it gets docked points for all the unnecessary yelling in the chorus.
Benson Boone brings his second song on the countdown with Mystical Magical. This is really fun and Benson sounds great, but I have a feeling this is going to get very overplayed and shrink on me like Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else has.
Now the best for last. Lorde makes her highly anticipated return to the countdown in over 9 years. She hasn't been seen on the countdown since her song Magnets with Disclosure in 2016. What Was That is nothing short of incredible. The production is a bit minimalistic, but it starts to pick up near the end, and Lorde's super unique voice is amazing as always. Hopefully this song doesn't flop hard like all of her songs seem to do after Royals.
Countdown Extra: Lauren Spencer Smith - IF KARMA DOESN'T GET YOU (I WILL)
Biggest Jump Of The Week: Alex Warren - Ordinary [+11]
Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Lola Young - Messy [-6]
Last year's #1 song: Benson Boone - Beautiful Things (2/2 weeks at #1)
Favorite song last year: Bambie Thug - Doomsday Blue
Least favorite song last year: SZA - Saturn
Most missed song: Halsey/Big Sean/Stefflon Don - Alone (2018)
Recommendation for Hits 1: Damiano David - Voices

Oh joy, another Ed Sheeran ballad because that's what we needed. Old Phone has nice lyrics, but the production is just so uninteresting.
Maroon 5, aka the Adam Levine solo experience, is back after 2 years after the disaster that was Middle Ground. If you want to know what I think about that song, just look at the first 3 letters of the title. They collab with LISA on Priceless. Thankfully this is so much better than Middle Ground. The production is pretty fun and Adam and LISA both sound great.
Dove Cameron is back with French Girls. Too Much is so much better than this. This is just so insanely generic and not something I want to come back to.
We have some African-American pop-punk band who has opened for Green Day called The Paradox with Do Me Like That. This is quite good. I can see why they opened for Green Day because this sounds very Green Day-y. I really like the pop-punk production and whoever is singing here sounds great.
Lastly we have more Jessie Murph because Hits 1 still refuses to believe that she's never gonna become big. Blue Strips really sucks. It's just some generic trap beat and Jessie sounds horrible as usual.
On another note, I just think it's hilarious that the one time Damiano David releases an amazing song, Hits 1 doesn't pick up on it. Hopefully Hits 1 picks up on Voices next week.
Exits:
- sombr - undressed [6]
- Ravyn Lenae - Love Me Not [6]
Both these songs were super mid and won't be missed.

Blurb me like that:
We lost luther, Still Bad, and Bed Chem. Still Bad was great but it was super forgettable and was never going to be big. Good riddance to luther, which stuck around for way too long, and never managed to peak in the top half of the countdown. And a special good riddance to Bed Chem, which was super annoying and will probably end up being #1 on my most annoying songs of 2025 list. Also it managed to stay on the countdown after being off the past 3 surveys, which is a record as far as I'm aware.
Is NOKIA just gonna rot in the bottom spot of the countdown its entire run?
After 6 long weeks, like JENNIE has finally escaped the bottom 5 of the countdown...into the bottom 6 🤦
Ordinary had a massive 11 spot jump. Okay, then.
Good News really needs to go away. It's been here for 6 months and refuses to leave the top 10.
Busy Woman keeps climbing higher and higher, and it's only a matter of time until it reaches #1.
toxic till the end has been blocked yet again from #1 for a 4th week in a row now. Let's just hope this stays blocked, because this really does not need to go #1.
That's all for now, see you all next week!
