My Top 10 Best/Worst Songs of 2024

Hey guys! I can't believe 2024 is almost over, it seems like just yesterday 2024 started. Anyways, it's finally time to reveal my top 10 favorite and least favorite songs of 2024! First up, let's start with the top 10 worst songs.

Top 10 Worst Songs

#10: UMI/V - wherever u r

This was extremely boring and sounds like a ripoff of Madison Beer's Reckless.

#9: Zach Bryan/Kacey Musgraves - I Remember Everything

I don't get the appeal of Zach Bryan. People say he's indie country, I say he's extremely boring.

#8: Taylor Swift/Post Malone - Fortnight

The Tortured Poets Department was more like the tortured ears department. Forgettable production combined with uninspiring lyrics make this one of Taylor's worst songs. Post Malone doesn't have enough lyrics in this song to save this trainwreck of a song.

#7: Taylor Swift - Is It Over Now?

Is this boring overplayed song over now?

#6: Damiano David/Labrinth - Silverlines

The lead singer of one of my favorite bands Maneskin decided to launch a solo career. Unfortunately for his first song, he chose to collab with Labrinth, one of the worst producers ever. Unsurprisingly this is boring like all of Labrinth's songs are. Fortunately, Damiano's next song Born With a Broken Heart is so much better.

#5: Camila Cabello - GODSPEED

The production is so bad and ear-rapey, and Camila has a very weird vocal effect on her voice.

#4: Noah Kahan - Stick Season

We really didn't need more overplayed boring male ballads this year.

#3: SZA - Saturn

This was just way too weird and SZA does not sound good at all.

#2: Doja Cat - Agora Hills

The production is garbage, Doja sounds like ass, the talking throughout the song is distracting and out of place, and this was way too overplayed.

And my #1 worst song of 2024 is....

#1: Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me

This should have been called "Vomit On Me" because the only thing I want to do while listening to this song is vomiting.

Now it's time to go over my 10 best songs of 2024!

Top 10 Best Songs

#10: Pharrell Williams - Double Life

This was such a fun song off the Despicable Me 4 soundtrack. This deserved to at least be on hitbound a week.

#9: Lawrence - Whatcha Want

This was such a super fun and catchy soul song that deserved to be bigger than it was.

#8: Boys Like Girls - MIRACLE

This was a very fun pop punk song that definitely deserved success on pop.

#7: ROSÉ/Bruno Mars - APT.

A very fun K-Pop song that brings back some early to late 2000s vibes.

#6: Pitbull/Ne-Yo/AFROJACK - 2 The Moon

Give Me Everything Pt 2 definitely deserved to be on the countdown for at least one week instead of rotting in the abyss like it did.

#5: Kesha - JOYRIDE

I'm so glad Kesha returned to making dance pop bangers and is easily her best song in over 10 years.

#4: LANY - XXL

This was a really cool alt rock song and deserved more than 1 week on the countdown.

#3: Paul Russell - Eat Pray Love

Super fun production along with humorous lyrics easily make this my favorite song from Paul Russell and one of the best songs this year.

#2: Victoria Monét - On My Mama

I'm not normally a fan of R&B, but this was just way too catchy, and ended up being my #1 most streamed song of 2024.

And my #1 best song of 2024 is...

#1: Jung Kook/Usher - Standing Next to You

I'm not normally a big fan of BTS or its members, as V was on my worst song, but this was way too catchy. The production is amazing, and Jung Kook and Usher both sound great together. It's just a shame Hits 1 never played the Usher remix because it's so much better.

Well, that does it for now. Stay tuned for the 2024 Hits 1 year in review post sometime after the last countdown of 2024 airs, along with the Hits 1 top 30 of 2024 post whenever that airs.

Debuts:

After leaving hitbound all the way back in August and being in the abyss for months, I Love You, I'm Sorry finally debuts. This has grown on me somewhat since I called it "This song is boring, I'm sorry." The production while slow is still nice and Gracie sounds good.

Also Available on Survey

Sabrina Carpenter - Bad Chem [7]

Megan Moroney - Am I Okay? [2]

First up we have some rando named Lola Young with Messy. This sounds very forgettable and her voice isn't that great.

Kpop group TWICE and Megan Thee Stallion collab with Strategy. This is really fun and everyone sounds great.

An almost 2 year old RAYE song called Oscar Winning Tears is just now becoming popular because apparently it played over a video of her reacting to her 2025 Grammy nominations. The production is really good and RAYE's voice is amazing as always.

I don't think So Cold or good old days are ever gonna leave...

Exits:

DJ Lucas Beat/Jason Derulo/Sia - You Can Do Anything [1]

Teddy Swims - Bad Dreams [6] [2nd time]

Myles Smith - Nice To Meet You [4] [2nd time]

You Can Do Anything grew on me a lot and finds itself in the abyss. Not sure why Bad Dreams reentered last week when it just left this week. And Nice To Meet You was very forgettable.

Abyss

DJ Lucas Beat/Jason Derulo/Sia - You Can Do Anything

Megan Moroney - Am I Okay?

Eminem/Jelly Roll - Somebody Save Me

KATSEYE - Touch

Meghan Trainor - Criminals

Katy Perry/Doechii - I'M HIS, HE'S MINE

Taylor Swift - So High School

Akon - Akon's Beautiful Day

Lil Nas X - LIGHT AGAIN!

The Kid LAROI/Quavo - SLOW IT DOWN

Sabrina Carpenter - Bad Chem

Harry Styles - Daylight

Who is Megan Moroney and why does she have a random song in the abyss? And why is Somebody Save Me randomly in the abyss also?

Oscar winning blurbs:

I Can Do It With A Broken Heart finally left this week. Despite being here for 8 months, it never faded on me, but it really needed to leave.

Hits 1 really liked the number 5 this week since there were a ton of 5 spot jumps and drops.

Hits 1 switched to the Joe Jonas remix of Burning Down. I guess this is slightly better.

Disease jumped to #4. Hopefully this can be a new potential #1.

Did Close To You really need to jump to #2? Hopefully this ends up getting blocked from #1.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

Poll of the week results:

Top 10 Most Annoying Songs of 2024

Hey guys, what's up? Well, it's that time of year where we take a look back at all the songs that defined 2024. Today I'm taking a look at the most annoying songs of the year. These weren't necessarily bad songs, but you couldn't escape these songs any time you turned on the radio. Songs on this list are overplayed, overrated, inescapable, or just downright annoying. Alright, let's get started!

#10: Olivia Rodrigo - obsessed

You probably already know I'm not the biggest Olivia "Midrigo" fan. I actually really loved this song when it was first released. It spent one week as my purple song and spent a few weeks on my personal charts. But then of course Hits 1 had to overplay it. Luckily, pop radio and Hits 1 realized how mid this song was so it quickly died a horrible death.

#9: Myles Smith - Stargazing

I already though this song was painfully generic, and the overplay hasn't helped.

#8: Gracie Abrams - Close To You

This is closing in on its 24th week on the countdown and refuses to leave the top 10 and really needs to go away.

#7: Post Malone/Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help

This was a fun song, until it became inescapable every time you turned on your radio.

#6: Benson Boone - Slow It Down

This stupid boring ballad was inescapable any time I turned on the radio. Luckily Hits 1 purged this so I don't have to hear it anytime soon.

#5: Djo - End of Beginning

Joe Keery really needs to stick to acting instead of making music. It's funny, this song almost spent 30 weeks on the countdown then Hits 1 randomly decided to purge it and I haven't heard it in ages.

#4: Ariana Grande - we can't be friends

yes, and? was so much better than this, why did it have to get replaced by the much more annoying we can't be friends?

#3: Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please

You already knew all 3 Short n' Sweet singles would be here. Please Please Please was actually pretty fun but was way too overplayed.

#2: Sabrina Carpenter - Taste

No Sabrina, no one cares what you taste like.

And the #1 most annoying song of 2024 goes to.......

#1: Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso

This was literally inescapable in 2024. Whether it was on the radio, grocery store, or mall, you couldn't go 5 minutes without hearing this song. And the fact that Hits 1 still continues to play this makes it even more annoying.

Well, that does it. Be on the lookout for my top 10 best/worst songs of 2024 post, coming soon.

1. Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile [=] {16w} [2 weeks at #1]

Debuts:

Both Wicked songs debuted this week. First is the best one, Popular. This has grown on me a lot. It's very catchy and Ariana sounds great despite not really sounding like herself.

The next Wicked song is Defying Gravity. This isn't nearly as good as Popular. This seems very forgettable.

Kendrick Lamar and SZA collab with luther. I think it's hilarious that Hits 1 was 3 months late to pick up on Not Like Us, yet they've picked up on luther 2 weeks after it was released when it hasn't even been pushed to pop yet. Anyways, this song is just forgettable R&B crap.

ROSÉ just released her first album Rosie, and she replaces herself with toxic till the end. This is a lot more upbeat than number one girl, but still not nearly as good as APT.

We have one of the most random collabs ever. A random Portuguese DJ named DJ Lucas Beat, who I know nothing about since his Spotify bio is in Portuguese, Jason Derulo, and Sia are here with You Can Do Anything. This is alright, I guess. It's pretty fun, everyone sounds good, but this is a bit too short.

Bad Dreams reentered. This is just now starting to get popular so it's just a classic case of Hits 1 picking up on a song too early.

Now the best for last. Crash Adams are here with yet another banger Optimist. This is super fun, and it even has some Maroon 5 vibes, I swear he sounds exactly like Adam Levine especially in the chorus. Hopefully this becomes a hit.

Exits:

ROSÉ - number one girl [2]

Luckily ROSÉ replaced herself with a much better song. Also, this was the final week for the 2024 hitbound dropouts tracking period. Hitbound dropouts after this week will be added to the 2025 dropout list. You can check out the final 2024 hitbound dropout list here https://zestpond.blogspot.com/p/2024-hitbound-dropouts.html

Just one more month and Daylight would have spent its fourth consecutive year of being in the abyss.

You can blurb anything:

We lost Touch, Criminals, and Heatstroke. Touch and Criminals were fun but were slightly forgettable. And good riddance to Heatstroke, I'm not really sure why it randomly jumped 12 spots to #8 last week just for it to leave this week.

Sailor Song grew on me slightly.

After 3 months, It's ok I'm ok has finally reached the top half of the countdown.

Um, why is Ego still here? It got purged from mediabase 2 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure Hits 1 is only one of a few stations left still playing it.

Oof, HOT TO GO had a massive 12 spot drop and is dropping in airplay, this is probably on its way out soon.

Chappell Roan replaces herself in the top 5 with Pink Pony Club. This doesn't really seem like top 5 material, but ok I guess.

If Taste could please get out of the top 5 that would be wonderful.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

Poll of the week results:
