Debuts:

It's about damn time AJR released new music. They're finally back with Betty after Yes I'm A Mess was on the countdown in late 2023/early 2024. This is yet another banger from them. The production is super fun, the lyrics are great, and Jack Met sounds amazing as always. Hopefully this does well here.

Um, what the actual hell is this song? We have some random nobody named Olivia Dean with her song Nice To Each Other. I have no idea who this person is or why Hits 1 has randomly picked up on this. This isn't on Mediabase and it isn't trending anywhere. Even her Spotify description isn't helpful. It literally just says "if you know what I mean". No Olivia, I don't know what you mean. Anyways, the song itself is super boring. It kind of reminds me of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, but Dreams is so much better. This sounds like something my local Kohl's store would play, not something that should be on pop radio.

Justin Bieber is finally back on the countdown in 3 years with DAISIES since Honest in 2022. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to make a song that's even more forgettable than Honest. This is just some boring forgettable R&B song, and Justin doesn't sound that great here. And the rest of the album is more of the same. I don't see this song doing well at all, and let's just hope his new pop album coming out sometime this year or next year is a lot better than this piece of crap album.

After 2 crap debuts, at least we have another amazing debut. BLACKPINK finally make their return to the countdown with JUMP since Pink Venom in 2022. This has grown on me quite a bit this week. The club production from Diplo is super fun, and the girls sound great per usual.

Countdown Extra: KPop Demon Hunters Cast - Golden

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tate McRae - Just Keep Watching [+10]

Biggest...DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Jonas Brothers - Love Me To Heaven [-11]

Last year's #1 song: Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (5/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Knox - Treadmill

Least favorite song last year: Gracie Abrams - I Love You, I'm Sorry

Most missed song: AJR - I'm Ready (2013)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Jax Jones/Emei - Stereo

Hitbound really sucked this week. Except for one amazing song, everything else was forgettable as hell.

Oh great, we have more Alex Bore-en this week. He has released a new album, and he debuts with Eternity. This is very boring, and somehow even more forgettable than Ordinary.

The Jonas Brothers are back with I Can't Lose. This song is not great at all. The production is a bit overproduced and it sounds like there's a weird vocal effect on their voices. Love Me To Heaven and No Time To Talk are so much better than this.

Oh great, Jessie Murph released a new album and she's here for the millionth time with 1965. Wait, this song might actually be good? This song is so bad, but it's borderline on it's so bad it's good. The lyrics are so hilariously bad I can't even get mad. She has a voice crack when she sings "I want you to love meeeeeEEEEEEEeeeee" which sounds like a dying parakeet and is honestly kind of funny. I wanted to hate this song so bad, but it's hard to hate it when it's so hilariously bad.

Reneé Rapp replaces herself with Why Is She Still Here. The production is pretty cool and she sounds great as always, but this is a bit forgettable.

Um, why do we need 2 Alessi Rose songs on hitbound? Everything Anything is fine, I guess. It's a bit better than That Could Be Me but still extremely forgettable.

We have more Maroon 5 with California. Mikey Piff had the nerve to compare this to Sunday Morning and She Will Be Loved. Those songs are amazing power ballads. California, on the other hand, is not. It's sad to see how much Maroon 5 has degraded these past few years. They were my favorite band of all time at one point, now that crown belongs to AJR. This song is boring as hell, but at least Adam sounds somewhat decent here.

back to friends has entered the survey. There's not much to say about this except this is weird boring alt crap.

Lastly, Castle reentered, because we didn't have enough boring forgettable crap on hitbound.

Exits:

  • KPop Demon Hunters Cast - Golden [3] SOTW
  • Reneé Rapp - Mad [3]
  • Kehlani - Folded [3; 2nd time]
  • SUPER-Hi/NEEKA - Following The Sun [6]

We have yet another song that left hitbound the week it was the countdown extra. Golden is in the abyss, and the other songs I couldn't care less about.

2025 total dropouts: 109

Estimated total for 2025: 177 (-1)

Um, why is Ready For It randomly in the abyss?

...ready for blurbs?:

We lost NOKIA, 30 For 30, Anxiety, and Abracadabra. Anxiety and Abracadabra were getting extremely old and really needed to leave. Good riddance to 30 For 30 which lasted way too long. And as tradition for songs that spend months on the countdown and never peak higher than the top half, or in this case the bottom 5, I have to share an obituary for NOKIA.

Drake - NOKIA made its countdown debut on April 19, 2025.  It lived a debatably-good 3-month life for some reason.  Never aspiring for greatness, NOKIA became a shining example of “be happy with what you have”.  It never ascended higher than the #27 spot on the countdown.  Though it was never loved enough to see the countdown's top 25, it never once complained.  This lends credence to the idea that a positive attitude has a definite impact on longevity.  The Hits-1 voters never over-the-top appreciated it, and quite frankly neither did I, but a very modest number of people apparently consistently loved it for what it was.  Isn’t that all any of us aspire for?  Its lasting presence on the countdown did not go unnoticed, as a certain Hits-1 countdown recapper dedicated some of his precious Blurb space each week to discuss amazement at how it lasted so long.  I won’t go so far as to say NOKIA will be missed.  In fact, it certainly won’t be.  But we now find ourselves in a world in which there’s one fewer thing that doesn’t make any sense and can’t be explained by human logic, and well, that quite frankly ruins some of the magic of being alive.  Good-bye NOKIA.  It’s been real.

Nice to see Just Keep Watching rebounding after having a huge drop last week.

RIP No Time To Talk and Love Me To Heaven.

Um, why did Busy Woman reenter the top 10 when it had barely any airplay?

Mystical Magical entered the top 5. Okay then, I guess I'll take it.

Um, why in the actual hell is Messy all the way up to #4? This really does not need to be this high.

Nice to see Azizam finally went #1. This should have hit #1 a few months ago, but better late than never. Unfortunately, Manchild jumped to #2, so Azizam probably won't stay #1 for too much longer.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

  7. Ethan, I did my Pulse top 15 countdown if you'd like to look and see how I did the year end predictions. I just used your formula for calculating HitBound dropouts but instead of the number of HitBound dropouts in the year I used the current position on the year end the song is in.

Can you give it a try? It's not too hard to do.
