Debuts:

JISOO from BLACKPINK makes her countdown debut this week alongside ZAYN with EYES CLOSED. This song kind of sucks. The production is super boring and not interesting to listen to at all, but at least JISOO and ZAYN do sound great together.

Um, what the actual hell is this song? Justin Bieber debuts out of nowhere with YUKON. I really hated this song on first listen, but after a couple of listens it's not really that bad. Justin is singing with a really weird high pitched chipmunk voice throughout the song which is really off-putting. The production is very minimal, just a couple of guitar strings. This song falls into the category of being so bad it's good, but I really hope this song doesn't last too much longer because this seems like the type of song that would become annoying very quickly.

Finally we have an amazing debut after having 2 very questionable debuts. I'm very glad that Hits 1 finally decided to pick up on Lover Girl by Laufey. I wasn't the biggest fan of Laufey at first. When Tough Luck debuted hitbound, I thought it was extremely mid. Then it grew on me a ton and went #1 on my personal charts, then Lover Girl went #1 soon after. Lover Girl is nothing short of amazing. I really love the production, it's super unique. It's a mix of bossa nova, samba, and jazz. And Laufey's voice is incredible. Hopefully this does well, but I have a feeling this might flop unfortunately.

Countdown Extra: Charlie Puth - Changes

Biggest Jump Of The Week: David Guetta/Teddy Swims/Tones And I - Gone Gone Gone [+8]

Biggest...DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Alessi Rose - First Original Thought [-4]

Last year's #1 song: Billie Eilish - BIRDS OF A FEATHER (1/3 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Linkin Park - The Emptiness Machine

Least favorite song last year: Gigi Perez - Sailor Song

Most missed song: Vanessa Carlton - Ordinary Day (2002)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Magnus Ferrell - Ain't The Feeling

Wow, Mikey Piff wasn't kidding when he called this an extra chunky double stuffed episode of hitbound, there were 10 debuts! Let's get started.

Kicking off hitbound, we have some random 3 month old Jonas Brothers song Backwards. Is this trending anywhere, or is Hits 1 so desperate for new Jonas Brothers that they're picking up on random non-singles. I don't really like this song. This feels super generic and forgettable as hell. I don't see this lasting long.

We have our first of many random nobodies this week. First is some rando named Camryn Quinlan with ex box. This is actually pretty good. The production is really fun and she has a great voice. I'm gonna be keeping an eye on her to see what she releases in the future.

Everyone is pulling a Taylor Swift now, even Machine Gun Kelly. He has released several vault tracks from his 2020 album Tickets To My Downfall, and he debuts with home bittersweet home. This is fine. The pop punk production is good but very generic but mgk sounds great as always.

5 Seconds of Summer are here with their third single from Everyone's A Star with Telephone Busy. This is amazing. I think this is even better than NOT OK. The alt production is really fun here and the boys sound great as always.

Oh great just what we needed, more Jackson Wang. I normally like him, 100 Ways and Drive You Home were great songs, but Feeling Lucky was super mid. Unfortunately, Made Me A Man just plain sucks. The production is super weird and boring and his voice does not sound great here. Hopefully this ends up flopping.

We have new Selena Gomez from the Nobody Wants This Netflix series called In The Dark. I quite like this. This kind of gives me old school Selena Gomez vibes. The synth pop production is super fun and Selena sounds great. Hopefully this ends up being a hit.

Demi Lovato has released her new EDM focused album It's Not That Deep, and replaces herself with Let You Go. This is the weakest single from that album so far. The EDM production is a bit boring here but Demi does sound good here.

Who the hell is this? Someone named Sophia James is here with So Unfair. According to Mikey she's some Youtuber. This song is actually pretty good. This gives off mid 2000s piano pop vibes like Vanessa Carlton and Sara Bareilles, and her voice is really great. I'm interested in seeing what other songs she releases in the future.

Oh great, we have another rando. We have some alt rock band named In Color with Headlights. This is decent I guess. The alt rock production is pretty generic and whoever singing does not sound the best.

We end hitbound this week with more Lewis Capaldi because we totally needed more from him. Almost actually isn't that bad. This has some interesting alt pop production and Lewis doesn't sound like a cross being a dying frog and a dying dog for once in his life.

blurb box:

We lost Folded, Love Is Like, and DAISIES. Good riddance to Folded. I have no idea how it lasted so long just to rot in the bottom 10 spots in the countdown. Love Is Like was a great song but it was extremely forgettable. And good riddance to DAISIES too. It's funny this just now left as it was hitting #1 on Mediabase and AT40. A huge Hits 1 W for not letting this hit #1.

Nice to see Gone Gone Gone getting a big jump.

Nice to see The Big Goodbye continuing to jump. This has started to grow on me a ton.

Man I Need had a big jump almost into the top half of the countdown. Luckily this isn't rotting in the bottom 5 spots of the countdown like Nice To Each Other did.

The entire top 5 didn't change at all, and the entire top 4 hasn't changed for the past 3 weeks. We really need some more movement up there.

Tears is now at its 3rd week at #1. I really hope a new song reaches #1 soon because this will get very annoying very quickly if it stays too much longer at #1.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

  1. Fun Fact: This week 10 years ago had 8 HitBound debuts. I was seriously in shock when they tweeted 8 debuts as it was a record breaker and I knew back then that the countdown only went up to 7 exits. This made me think 8 exit weeks were actually possible and when I learned how many exits the 2011 weeks had in the summer of 2016, I knew that they were possible as 2011 had 2 of them. Now, like 10 years ago, the weekend before Halloween this year has a record breaking number of HitBound debuts with 10 (not counting reentries) for the year and yes, we literally had 2 more HitBound debuts 10 years after the 8 HitBound debut week in 2015. This shows how much easier it is to get a higher number of HitBound debuts nowadays
