Harry Styles (8) - Week Of July 2, 2022

Harry The Caveman

Happy 4th of July weekend (or Canada Day if you're Canadian). Just a reminder that my rankdown is due in four weeks, July 30. Again we have another bad week. 3 great song left the countdown, barely any movement, the top 7 didn't change at all, and Harry The Clown is still at #1. 4 • Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name) (#4) [=]

3 • Anne-Marie/Niall Horan - Our Song (#14) [+11]

2 • Doja Cat/SZA - Kiss Me More (#2) [=]

1 • Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U (#1) [=] [5th Week At #1]

favorite song last year: Lost - Maroon 5

least favorite song last year: AOK - Tai Verdes

favorite song 2 years ago: Banana (Minisiren Remix) - Conkarah/Shaggy/DJ Fle (remember this song?)

least favorite song 2 years ago: death bed (coffee for your head) - Powfu/beabadoobee (my second worst song of all time, after Way 2 Sexy)

most missed countdown song: Beautiful Soul - Jesse McCartney (2005)

Debuts:

Drake is back on the countdown with Massive after last year's Way 2 Sexy, which is easily my worst song of all time. I'd never thought I'd say this, but wow, Drake actually made a good song. I really like the 90s house beat, and it evolves throughout the song. And Drake actually doesn't sound that bad. Overall a pretty good song and I hope it does well.

Tai Verde is back on the countdown with sheluvme after the short-lived Let's Go To Hell. After hearing this song a lot on Hits 1 over the past week, I've actually grown to like it. Tai is less annoying than he usually is, and the production is pretty good too.

I knew this song was gonna debut and it has. Left and Right by Charlie Puth and Jung Kook. This is basically Light Switch 2.0. It's a gimmicky song. Whereas Light Switch's gimmick was the light switch sound effect, this song's gimmick is the "I can hear you over here" coming from different sides of the speaker. And you know what, it works. I'm a sucker for gimmicks. I loved Light Switch, and I love this song as well. It's super catchy, and Charlie and Jung sound good. I think this song has #1 potential, but let's wait and see.

Hitbound (excluding Sunday Bests and 1TW):

Don't You Worry - Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, David Guetta

Bois Lie - Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly (Debut)

a letter to me - Dixie

Disaster - Conan Gray

Life's Too Short - aespa

Angry Woman - Ashe

Dress - Charlotte Sands

Twinkle Twinkle Little B**** - Leah Kate

Glimpse of Us - Joji (church hymn alert)

Breakfast - Dove Cameron

die first - Nessa Barrett

Baby Boo - Muni Long, Saweetie

Wasted On You - Morgan Wallen (Debut)

Wow, Hits 1 picked up on this song really late. Bois Lie by Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly was released back in February. This song is kinda basic, but it's still really good. Avril and MGK sound really good, and I really like the 2000s pop punk production.

No no, no no no!!! Hits 1 picked up on Wasted On You by Morgan Wallen. No no no!!! Really Hits 1, did you not learn your lesson after Walker Hayes' abysmal Fancy Like and U Gurl? We don't need any more horrible trap country songs on the radio. While Morgan does sound slightly better than Walker Hayes, the country trap production is horrible. If this song actually debuts, expect a huge rant.

Exits:

Carolina - Taylor Swift

Booty - Saucy Santana/Latto

Booty was pretty fun but I never excepted it to debut. Carolina is one of the worst Taylor Swift songs I've heard so I'm glad it's gone.

Abyss:

Music For a Sushi Restaurant - Harry Styles

I Ain't Worried - OneRepublic

Want Want - Maggie Rogers

BREAK MY SOUL - Beyoncé

Daylight - Harry Styles

Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez

Flowers - Lauren Spencer-Smith

this is what falling in love feels like - JVKE

Get Into It (Yuh) - Doja Cat

Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush

It's funny, the same artist has my favorite and least favorite abyss song. While MFASR has really cool production and is fun to listen to...Daylight on the other hand is not. The song itself isn't that bad. Harry sounds pretty good. But the production, if you can even call it that, is boring and nonexistent. This borders on church hymn territory, but I don't think I'm gonna call it that yet.

Blurbs follow me left and right:

We lost I Love U, Viva Las Vengeance, and Jiggle Jiggle. I think I was the only one who liked Viva Las Vengeance, but it was kinda forgettable, so I'm fine that it's gone. Jiggle Jiggle was a hilarious song, but we all knew it wouldn't last long here. I Love U was a great song that Hits 1 decided to fuck over for some reason.

So instead of removing Numb Little Bug and Sweetest Pie, two really annoying overplayed songs, Hits 1 decided to remove I Love U and Jiggle Jiggle. What the actual fuck Hits 1? Please do better.

So Good has only been here for 3 weeks, but it's starting to get really overplayed and annoying.

Really Hits 1? The top 7 songs haven't changed at all.

Now for the biggest fuck you Hits 1 has given us. Ass It Was fell to the #8 spot in airplay, and Sunroof rose to #1 in airplay. So it would make total sense to make Sunroof #1 on the countdown. Ass It Was had been #1 for 7 weeks in a row, so people would be tired of it by now. Nope! Hits 1 randomly decided to make Harry The Clown #1 for an 8th week in a row! This song does not deserve 8 weeks at #1. It didn't even deserve #1 at all! If this breaks Shivers' record for #1, I'm going on the biggest rant ever. And I have a very bad feeling that it will, we all knew it the moment this song debuted.

Bye for now, see you all next week!

Harry Styles (7) - Week of June 25, 2022

Harry Styles In WWII

Hey guys, what's going on? Just a reminder to do my rankdown on all #1 songs on the weekend countdown. You have 3 weeks from today, July 16, to complete it. https://zestpond.blogspot.com/2022/06/every-1-song-on-weekend-countdown.html. This was a very bad week. A lot of really awful songs debuted hitbound, expect for one amazing one, the one to watch has one of the worst songs I've ever heard, and there have been some very questionable exits, jumps, and drops. Before we get to this week's fresh 30, let's say goodbye to the songs leaving the countdown.

#3 2step - Ed Sheeran/Lil Baby (+1)

#2 SUNROOF - Nicky Youre/dazy (+1)

#1 As It Was - Harry Styles (=) (7 weeks at #1)

Biggest Jump Of The Week:  Potion - Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa/Young Thug (+5) I barely hear this song getting played, how is it the biggest jump?  Still a good song, though.

Biggest...DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Numb Little Bug - Em Beihold (-7) This song is kinda starting to get annoying, so I hope it leaves soon.

Countdown extra: Booty - Saucy Santana, Latto

This Week's Top 5 One Year Ago:

5 • Ariana Grande - POV (#5) [=]

4 • Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name) (#2) [–2]

3 • AJR - Way Less Sad (#8) [+5]

2 • Doja Cat/SZA - Kiss Me More (#3) [+1]

1 • Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U (#1) [=] [4th Week At #1]

My favorite song last year: t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l - WILLOW/Travis Barker

My least favorite song last year: A-O-K - Tai Verdes

Most missed countdown song: Evacuate The Dancefloor - Cascada (2009)

TikTok top 5:

#5    About Damn Time

#4    Jiggle Jiggle

#3    Until I Found You

#2    First Class

#1    Running Up That Hill

Debuts:

Congratulations to Amelia Moore for being the next one to watch...and having one of the worst songs I've heard this year. The production is super strange. But the worst part of this song is Amelia's voice. She's way oversinging here. She's actually screeching in the chorus. I feeeeeeeeeeel eeeeeeeeeverything. God this song is super annoying, and I hope it leaves quickly after her 1tw is over.

On a better note, Hits 1 revived I Love U from the dead. I thought this song was gone forever. It got barely any airplay, then it started getting more airplay, and here it is. This song is amazing. I like the Japanese style production, and Drew's voice is pretty good. Unfortunately, I think this song is gonna pull an iPad and not last much longer here.

Hitbound:

Baby Boo - Muni Long, Saweetie

Breakfast - Dove Cameron (Debut)

Life's Too Short - aespa (Debut)

Left and Right - Charlie Puth, Jung Kook (Debut)

sheluvme - Tai Verdes (Debut)

a letter to me - Dixie

Angry Woman - Ashe (Debut)

Disaster - Conan Gray (Debut)

Don't You Worry - Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, David Guetta

Carolina - Taylor Swift (Debut) (church hymn)

Twinkle Twinkle Little B**** - Leah Kate (Debut)

Glimpse of Us - Joji (church hymn)

i feel everything - Amelia Moore (Sunday Best)

die first - Nessa Barrett (Debut)

Booty - Saucy Santana, Latto

Dress - Charlotte Sands

Dove Cameron is back with another song, Breakfast. This song is very strange. The lyrics are very questionable. I eat guys like you for breakfast. This song is okay, I guess, not as good as Boyfriend.

A kpop group called aespa brings Life's Too Short. It's fine, I guess. Just a generic kpop song.

God, does Tai Verdes intentionally make the most boring, worst songs ever? 100sadsongs was terrible, and sheluvme is just as bad. This song is not interesting at all, and it sounds like Tai is singing while eating cheese or something.

For God's sake Hits 1, no one likes Ashe, stop trying to stan her!!! The production with Angry Woman is kinda cool, it's very alternative-ly, but Ashe's voice is not good at all.

Church Hymn alert!!! If you don't know, a church hymn is a song that is very boring/slow, has very little evolution in the production, or has uninteresting vocals (I got the idea from Hippo). And Taylor Swift's song, Carolina, fits all 3 bills. This song comes from the movie Where The Crawdads Sing.  This is just a generic guitar ballad. There is hardly any evolution throughout the song. It feels like anyone could have sang this song, it even sounds like Billie Eilish is singing at some parts.

Nessa Barrett is back with die first. This song is just okay, it's not as good as dying on the inside. Nessa's voice is pretty good, but the production is kinda generic.

Conan Gray is back with Disaster. After the disaster (pun intended) of Jigsaw, I was not looking forward to this song. But I was pleasantly surprised. The production is really good, it almost reminds me of Stay. And Conan's voice is pretty good. I hope this becomes a hit here.

Leah Kate brings us a new song called Twinkle Twinkle Little B****. With a title like that, I didn't have high hopes. The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sample actually works very well. And I like the pop punk production, and Leah sounds pretty good. This song is way better than 10 things i hate about you, and I hope it does well.

Now the best song for last. Charlie Puth and Jung Kook (from BTS) bring us Left And Right. And holy cow, the production is amazing. The two "I can feel you over here"s coming from different sides of the speakers is simply brilliant. And this song is just insanely catchy. Also Charlie and Jung sound really good here. I think this song is going to be a huge hit, and might even hit #1 (it might even be the one to dethrone Ass It Was).

Exits:

Falling Back - Drake

Only You - Eddie Benjamin, Alessia Cara

Want Want - Maggie Rogers

Grrrls - Lizzo

Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez

Falling Back, Want Want, and Until I Found You find themselves in the abyss. Grrrls was terrible. Only You was good but was never gonna debut.

Abyss:

I Ain't Worried - OneRepublic

Falling Back - Drake

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - Kate Bush

Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez

this is what falling in love feels like - JVKE

BREAK MY SOUL - Beyoncé

Want Want - Maggie Rogers

Get Into It (Yuh) - Doja Cat

Massive - Drake

Hits 1 replaced Falling Back with Massive. Massive is way better than Falling Back. Massive has a 90s house feel, and actually evolves throughout the song. I think I've found a Drake song that I actually like.

Beyonce is back on Hits 1 after 10 years with Break This Soul. This song is amazing. Like Massive, it has a 90s house feel, and Beyonce's voice is amazing, as always.

OneRepublic has a song from the Top Gun Maverick movie, I Ain't Worried. This song is just really fun. I'm a huge fan of whistling in songs, and this song is no exception. And Ryan Tedder sounds really good. I wish this song would become a hit here, but I doubt, this seems more like a Pulse song.

twinkle twinkle little blurb:

We lost Skyline and Skin Of My Teeth. Skyline was still good, and still deserved to stick around at least for a few more weeks. And Skin Of My Teeth adds another one week wonder to the growing list of this year's one week wonders.

About Damn Time, When You're Gone, Boyfriend, Bam Bam, and 10 things i hate about you are starting to get really overplayed and annoying. And Sweetest Pie got annoying a long time ago.

I seriously don't know how Late Night Talking is still here. It barely gets any airplay. It's lucky to get one or two spins a day. It's a shame, I do really like this song.

About Damn Time had a chance to overthrow Harry Styles, but it fell two spots. I'm gonna go on a rant. For some reason, Hits 1 hates black females. In the past 11 years, guess how many black females have reached #1 on the weekend countdown. 3!!!!! Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris - We Found Love, Cobra Starship ft. Sabi - You Make Me Feel, and fun ft. Janelle Monáe - We Are Young. There has never been a solo black female at #1, all 3 songs had help from a white male. Out of 175 songs that have been #1, 3 are from a black female - 1.7%! C'mon Hits 1, we need to do better.

Ass It Was is #1 for a 7th week in a row. The only song that has a chance of overthrowing it is Sunroof, but I highly doubt it. Get ready for Harry Styles to break the #1 record.

Bye for now, see you all next week!

Doja Cat/SZA - Kiss Me More (#4) [+1]

Lil Nas X - Montero (Call Me By Your Name) (#2) [=]

Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U (#1) [=] [3rd Week At #1]

My favorite song last year: Friday (Re-Edit) - Riton/Nightcrawlers/Mufasa & Hypeman/Dopamine

My least favorite song last year: Your Power - Billie Eilish

Most missed countdown song: I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas (2009)

Debuts:

Potion re-entered. It's a pretty good song, so I'm glad it's back.

Alec Benjamin has his first song on the countdown in 2 years since 2020's Oh My God with Devil Doesn't Bargain. I'm not the biggest fan of Alec's whiny, kiddish voice, but this song is pretty good.

Halsey is back after last year's I am not a woman, I'm a god with So Good. Halsey's voice is amazing, as always, and the production is pretty cool. A really solid Halsey song.

Demi Lovato is back after their verse on Monsters from late 2020/early 2021 with Skin Of My Teeth. Wow, Demi went full pop punk. Anyone remember Celebrity Skin from Doja Cat earlier this year? The two songs sound almost identical. I'm a huge fan of pop punk, so I love Skin Of My Teeth. Hopefully this song does well here.

Now the best for last. Marshmello and Khalid have teamed up to make Numb. And holy cow, this is such a banger! The production is phenomenal. I love the whistling, and Khalid's voice is superb. This is going to be a huge summer hit.

Hitbound:

Dress - Charlotte Sands

Falling Back - Drake (Debut)

Only You - Eddie Benjamin, Alessia Cara

Booty - Saucy Santana, Latto (Debut)

Don't You Worry - Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, David Guetta (Debut)

So Good - Halsey (Sunday Best)

Devil Doesn't Bargain - Alec Benjamin (Sunday Best)

a letter to me - Dixie (Debut)

Baby Boo - Muni Long, Saweetie

i feel everything - Amelia Moore

Skin Of My Teeth - Demi Lovato (Sunday Best)

Glimpse of Us - Joji (Debut)

Numb - Marshmello, Khalid (Sunday Best)

Want Want - Maggie Rogers

Grrrls - Lizzo

Until I Found You - Stephen Sanchez (re-entry)

Really Hits 1, 4 Sunday Bests this week? If you don't know a Sunday Best is when a song is on the countdown and hitbound at the same time.

First up is Glimpse Of Us by Joji. Wow, what a snoozefest. This song makes The Joker And The Queen sound like a dance song. This guy's voice is not very good either. Overall not a very good song.

Next is a letter to me by Dixie. Hits 1, can we please stop tying to make Dixie D'Amelio a thing? No one likes her. This song is also kind of a snoozefest, and Dixie is oversinging in some parts. Overall, not very good.

Drake released a surprise album, and Hits 1 picked up on Falling Back. Drake might be my most hated artist of all time. I haven't liked a single song he's released. Way 2 Sexy was my least favorite song last year, and might be my least favorite song of all time. The only song I thought was okay was Hotline Bling, but it's still not very good. Falling Back might be my favorite Drake song so far, but that's not saying much. This song still isn't very good. Drake tried to go for an EDM song. I love EDM songs, so I should love this song. Unfortunately, I hate Drake's voice, and he keeps repeating the same line the entire song. The only saving grace about this song is the beat, it's actually pretty good. If literally anyone else way singing, this could be a pretty good song. I'm putting this song in the okay tier for now, but I might rank it lower if it starts to get annoying.

Next we have Booty by Saucy Santana and Latto. I really like the production here. They sampled Crazy In Love by Beyonce and Jay Z, which is a pretty good song. Everyone sounds good here. I really like fun songs with nonsensical lyrics, that's why I really like Get Into It (Yuh) And Jiggle Jiggle. Overall a pretty fun song.

Now the best song for last. We have Don't You Worry by Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, and David Guetta. This song sounds like it could have been released in 2010, and I love it! Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, and David Guetta were some of the biggest artists in the late 2000s and early 2010s. This is how you properly make an EDM song, Drake! When I first read the title, I thought it said Don't You Worry Child, which was another amazing EDM song in the early 2010s. Everyone sounds good, and the production is phenomenal. Hearing will.i.am's and Shakira's voice brought back so many memories of listening to their songs in the 2000s and early 2010s.  This might be the best song of the year, and it will make an awesome summer song. Please Hits 1, don't let this flop like I Love U!

So apparently Amelia Moore is the next one to watch, so expect to hear i feel everything a lot this week. Really Hits 1, this song is terrible! The production is very strange and weird, and Amelia's voice, well it's terrible. She's actually screeching in the chorus. i feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel everythiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. Hits 1, please do better.

Exits:

88rising/BIBI - Best Lover

Dixie - Wild

Madeline The Person - MEAN!

Tate McRae - don't come back

Mimi Webb - Goodbye

Conor Maynard - P.G.N.L.

PGNL finds itself in the abyss and is getting quite a bit of airplay, so it might debut later, or it could pull an I Love U and never debut, who knows.

As for the rest of the songs, I didn't really care for any of them, so I'm okay that they're gone.

Abyss:

Conor Maynard - P.G.N.L.

Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush

Don't Forget My Love - Diplo, Miguel

this is what falling in love feels - JVKE

Flowers - Lauren Spencer-Smith

Get Into It (Yuh) - Doja Cat

I Love You So - The Walters

I Love U - The Chainsmokers

Music For a Sushi Restaurant - Harry Styles

Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush Um has entered the abyss. Um, why is a song released in 1985 being played on the radio? Apparently this song was in Stranger Things and got super popular. It's bad enough that a song released in 2014 entered the countdown (I Love You So by The Walters), but if a song released in 1985 enters, I'm going on a huge rant. As for the song itself, it's actually pretty good. It sounds just like any other 80s song my parents would listen to.

TikTok Top 5:

#5    First Class

#4    10 things i hate about you

#3    Jiggle Jiggle

#2    Until I Found You

#1    About Damn Time

The devil doesn't blurb:

We lost she's all i wanna be, Until I Found You, Wrapped Around Your Finger, Enemy, and To The Moon. I hated Enemy and To The Moon, so I'm glad that they're gone. Wrapped Around Your Finger only lasted one week which is a shame, it was a really good song. I just started warming up to Until I Found You, so I'm sad it left, but it's still in hitbound. she's all i wanna be was an incredible song, but it was starting to get old, so I don't mind that it's gone.

Numb Little Bug was the biggest drop. This song is good, but is starting to get really old and annoying, and it better leave soon before I hate it.

Out Of Time was the biggest jump. I really like the 70s production here, and the Weeknd's voice is amazing, as always.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't like First Class. The production is super boring, and the Glamorous sample in the background is super weird. And Jack's voice is very uninteresting.

How is Late Night Talking in the top 10? It has the lowest airplay out of all the countdown songs. Running Up That Hill had more airplay.

Can Sweetest Pie leave quickly please? This is the most annoying song on the countdown.

Harry Styles is number 1 for the 6th week in a row. I don't really see any other songs that can dethrone it soon, so expect this song to be #1 for a few more weeks.

Bye for now, see you all next week!
