Dua Lipa (6) - Week of Mar 9, 2024

Hey guys, what's up? I've re-enabled comments so comment to your heart's content and I'll try to respond to them as soon as I can. I've also changed the color of "good" songs from dark blue to light blue because the dark blue was very hard to read. This was a very active week. There were 5 exits and a ton of big drops and rises.

Before we get to this week's fresh 30, let's say goodbye to the songs leaving the countdown:

Nicki Minaj/Lil Uzi Vert - Everybody (#28)

Debuts:

Making its way out of the abyss is Usher with Kissing Strangers. Usher sounds good but this is kinda forgettable, and the song with the same name by DNCE and Nicki Minaj is a lot better.

Madison Beer is back on Hits 1 with Make You Mine after Reckless dropped out of hitbound in 2021. The EDM production is good and Madison sounds good but this is kinda forgettable.

Great, just what we need, more Snooza. SZA is back with Saturn. This isn't that great. It's just another weird and boring SZA song.

Girl in red makes her countdown debut with Too Much after that weird Serotonin song dropped out of hitbound in 2021. This is really fun and girl in red sounds great.

Beyoncé is back, this time with a country song TEXAS HOLD 'EM. This is a fun little country song and Beyoncé sounds good.

Countdown Extra: The Beaches - Blame Brett

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Knox - Me, Myself & Your Eyes (+13)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Teddy Swims - Lose Control (-12)

Last year's #1 song: Miley Cyrus - Flowers (5/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Patrick Martin - Dandelion Eyes

Least favorite song last year: JVKE - this is what heartbreak feels like

Most missed song: Kevin Rudolf/Lil Wayne - Let It Rock (2008)

Recommendation for Hits 1: Havana Brown - Forever Young

Hitbound:

Fall Out Boy - So Much (for) Stardust

Ariana Grande - we can’t be friends (wait for your love) (Debut)

Teddy Swims - The Door

Hayes Warner/Billy B/Kevin Rudolf - Just A Girl (Debut)

Luke Hemmings - Shakes (Debut)

Pharrell Williams/Miley Cyrus - Doctor (Work It Out)

Dasha - Austin (Debut)

Djo - End of Beginning (Debut)

24KGoldn - Clarity (re-entry)

LAY/LAUV - Run Back To You

Charli XCX - Von dutch (Debut)

Twenty One Pilots - Overcompensate

Liam Payne - Teardrops

Galantis/David Guetta/5 Seconds of Summer - Lighter

The Beaches - Blame Brett

Jagwar Twin - Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa)

Ariana Grande just released her new album eternal sunshine and she's here with we can’t be friends. Ariana sounds great and the production is pretty cool.

Hayes Warner teams up with Billy B and Kevin Rudolf for a remake of No Doubt's 1995 hit Just A Girl. I love the original Just A Girl and this one is great too. Hayes Warner and Billy B sound great and the guitar from Kevin Rudolf is amazing.

Luke Hemmings from 5 Seconds of Summer is here with Shakes. The production is alright but kinda boring but Luke sounds great as always.

We have 2 randos debuting hitbound this week. Country singer Dasha is here with Austin. The production is pretty fun and Dasha sounds pretty good.

Djo, whose real name is Joe Keery who is an actor on Stranger Things, is here with End of Beginning. This is very weird and Djo doesn't sound that great.

Clarity re-entered for some reason. This is pretty fun and 24KGoldn sounds good.

Charli XCX is back with Von dutch. This song is very weird but it kinda slaps.

Overcompensate has grown on me slightly.

Exits:

Alec Benjamin - Pick Me

Surfaces/JVKE - Don't Let Me Down

Jessie Murph - Son of a Bitch

Alex Warren - Before You Leave Me

Crash Adams - Good Side

Willow Avalon - Honey Ain't No Sweeter

Nicky Youre - S.A.D.

None of these were really that great and won't be missed.

Abyss:

MAX/HUH YUNJIN - STUPID IN LOVE

Jelly Roll/Lainey Wilson - Save Me

Morgan Wallen - Thinkin' Bout Me

The Weeknd/JENNIE/Lily-Rose Depp - One Of The Girls

Panic! At The Disco - New Perspective

Shinedown - A Symptom of Being Human

Jennifer Lopez/Latto - Can't Get Enough

FLETCHER - Lead Me On

Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor

Texas Blurb 'Em:

We lost Everybody, wherever u r, Say Cheese, Pink Friday Girls, and Seasons. Everybody and Pink Friday Girls were really fun and deserved better. wherever u r was extremely boring and did not deserve to become a hit. Say Cheese was fun but was kinda forgettable. And Seasons was super forgettable and lasted way too long.

Agora Hills and Lovin On Me need to do more leaving the countdown and less jumping.

This is ridiculous, Wild Ones has been here for 11 weeks and has never gotten higher than #25. Either do something or leave the countdown.

yes, and? has faded on me slightly.

It looks like Lose Control is finally on its way out. It's a good song but I don't think it deserved to be here for 26 weeks.

How much longer is Feather gonna be blocked from #1?

Houdini is #1 for a 6th week in a row. This is a good song but I'd like to see something else at #1 like Not The 1975 or even Feather, but anything but Is It Over Now.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

  1. You should listen to the new Lindsey Stirling song "Eye Of The Untold Her". It's fire. Also, did you see the message i dmed you on Pulse? Please respond to it as soon as you can. Thanks!

Also let me know what you think of Eye Of The Untold Her!

    1. Eye Of The Untold Her was actually pretty good. I agree the production is fire. I'd give it an 8.5/10. But it's probably not good enough to enter my chart, though.

    2. Cool! I still think the ford trucking anthem aka Roundtable Rival is her best song. Also, i know you liked JORDY's Story Of A Boy. Do you mind listening to Second Minute Hour, his new bop?

    3. Second Minute Hour is a banger, 9/10, definitely going in my bubbling under

    4. let me give you another three:

Luci - All Around Me (cover of All Around Me by Flyleaf)
Luci - Decode (cover of Decode by Paramore)
Luci feat. STAR SEED - What Was I Made For? (cover of... isn't it obvious?)

Let me know what you'd give them and which one's your fav.

That should be all the suggestions for now. Thanks!

    5. All Around Me and Decode were great but kinda forgettable EDM songs, both a 8.5/10. What Was I Made For was just alright, 7.5/10. None of them would be good enough to make my charts.

  2. I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes Bad Feeling

  3. Why are there so many songs debuting in the abyss lately? Like the abyss has recently been about as big as hitbound and more than half the songs in there have never made hb or the countdown yet. And it's not even like they're all old songs like New Perspective, Unwritten, and Murder of the Dance floor. There's a whole lot of new songs in there too, like Save Me, One of your Girls, and Can't Get Enough. Why is this so much more common in 2024?

    1. IDK TBH. I think the abyss exists because the countdown got reduced to a top 30 but it’s possible that it’s larger now because of social media versions of TikTok such as YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels. NGL, they are addicting to watch

    2. It's also becoming increasingly common for songs to drop out of hitbound, then randomly start getting spins again a week or two later and debut the countdown out of nowhere.
