Top 25 Biggest Songs Of The 2020s (So Far)

Hey guys! Wow, it's hard to believe it's already 2025, which means that the 2020s are almost already halfway over. It feels like just yesterday Covid happened, then suddenly 5 years have already passed. I decided to take a look back at this decade and count down the top 25 biggest songs on Hits 1 of this decade. I will only be counting songs' countdown runs in the 2020s. If a song spent time in both 2019 and 2020, I will only be counting its time in 2020. Alright, let's get started!

#25: Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero
Points: 118,693

Run: Oct 29, 2022 - Feb 11, 2023

Tenure: 16 weeks

Weeks at #1: 10

Blurb: I completely forgot this spent 10 weeks at #1. But it flopped hard after leaving #1, hence why it doesn't have so many points.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#24: Harry Styles - Late Night Talking

Points: 119,100

Run: Jun 4, 2022 - Nov 12, 2022

Tenure: 24 weeks

Weeks at #1: 5

Blurb: Ah, the good old days when we were complaining about Harry the Clown being #1 for too damn long. Now we're complaining about Sabrina the Clown being #1 for too damn long.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#23: Charlie Puth/Jung Kook - Left and Right

Points: 119,341

Run: Jul 2, 2022 - Jan 7, 2023

Tenure: 28 weeks

Weeks at #1: 4

Blurb: This was a very gimmicky song and the "I can feel you over here" gimmick got very old. I kinda forgot about this song ngl because Hits 1 hasn't played this in awhile.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#22: Hozier - Too Sweet

Points: 121,206

Run: Apr 6, 2024 - Aug 10, 2024

Tenure: 19 weeks

Weeks at #1: 6

Blurb: Ten years ago, if you said to me Hozier would have one of the biggest hits of the 2020s, I would have laughed at you.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#21: ROSÉ/Bruno Mars - APT.

Points: 124,607

Run: Oct 26, 2024 - Mar 22, 2025

Tenure: 22 weeks

Weeks at #1: 6

Blurb: This is a super fun song, but it has gotten slightly annoying.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#20: Lil Nas X - THATS WHAT I WANT

Points: 125,793

Run: Oct 2, 2021 - Apr 2, 2022

Weeks at #1: 3

Blurb: Not much to say except this was a very fun song.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#19: Ed Sheeran - Overpass Graffiti

Points: 126,422

Run: Nov 20, 2021 - Apr 30, 2022

Tenure: 24 weeks

Weeks at #1: 5

Blurb: Of course one of the biggest songs on Hits 1 in the 2020s wasn't a hit anywhere else.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#18: The Kid LAROI/Justin Bieber - STAY

Points: 127,447

Run: Jul 17, 2021 - Jan 22, 2022

Tenure: 28 weeks

Weeks at #1: 6

Blurb: This was a super fun song, and was the point when The Kid LAROI stopped being The "Mid" LAROI.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#17: Harry Styles - Golden

Points: 130,132

Run: Oct 31, 2020 - Mar 27, 2021

Tenure: 22 weeks

Weeks at #1: 4

Blurb: I don't know why everyone seems to hate this song, this is one of Harry's best songs.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#16: Dua Lipa/DaBaby - Levitating

Points: 132,626

Run: Oct 17, 2020 - Apr 3, 2021

Tenure: 25 weeks

Weeks at #1: 3

Blurb: It's a shame that DaBaby got DaCanceled because his remix is so much better than the original.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#15: Olivia Rodrigo - good 4 u

Points: 134,026

Run: May 29, 2021 - Oct 23, 2021

Tenure: 22 weeks

Weeks at #1: 9

Blurb: This song jumping a massive 25 spots to #1 on its second week on the countdown is still probably the most legendary moment in countdown history.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#14: Post Malone/Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help

Points: 134,254

Run: May 18, 2024 - Oct 26, 2024

Tenure: 24 weeks

Weeks at #1: 3

Blurb: 2024 - the year when everyone was doing country, even Post Malone.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#13: Harry Styles - Adore You

Points: 138,203

Run: Jan 4, 2020 - May 23, 2020

Tenure: 21 weeks

Weeks at #1: 10

Blurb: Sure, this was super overrated and spent way too long at #1, but was this song really so bad?

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#12: Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar

Points: 139,325

Run: Mar 28, 2020; Apr 11, 2020 - Sep 26, 2020

Weeks at #1: 7

Blurb: This is a super fun song, and I think this is too overhated.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#11: Sabrina Carpenter - Feather

Points: 140,055

Run: Dec 9, 2023 - May 18, 2024

Tenure: 24 weeks

Weeks at #1: 4

Blurb: Despite being super overplayed, this never got annoying, unlike her most recent songs. Also, how does this have so many points?

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#10: Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer

Points: 140,900

Run: Jun 20, 2020 - Jul 18, 2020; Jul 1, 2023 - Nov 11, 2023

Tenure: 25 weeks

Weeks at #1: 6

Blurb: Who would have thought some random song that spent 5 weeks on the countdown in 2020, would reenter the countdown 3 years later and become the biggest song of 2023. Also fun fact, this song spent its entire 2023 run in the top 10 of the countdown.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#9: Sabrina Carpenter - Taste

Points: 141,578

Run: Aug 31, 2024 - Feb 8, 2025

Tenure: 24 weeks

Weeks at #1: 5

Blurb: Eww how did this piece of crap score so high?

#8: Nicky Youre/Dazy - Sunroof

Points: 143,277

Run: Apr 16, 2022 - Oct 8, 2022

Tenure: 26 weeks

Weeks at #1: 5

Blurb: Ahh, the good old days when we were all rooting for this song to overthrow Harry the Clown from #1.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#7: All Time Low/Demi Lovato/blackbear - Monsters

Points: 152,186

Run: Sep 19, 2020 - Apr 3, 2021

Tenure: 29 weeks

Weeks at #1: 4

Blurb: I don't remember this song doing that well, or that it almost lasted 30 weeks.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#6: Lewis Capaldi - Before You Go

Points: 152,820

Run: Feb 8, 2020 - Oct 17, 2020

Tenure: 37 weeks

Weeks at #1: 1

Blurb: This only managed to get so many points because of its insanely long countdown run.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#5: Dua Lipa - Houdini

Points: 155,024

Run: Nov 18, 2023 - Apr 13, 2024

Tenure: 22 weeks

Weeks at #1: 8

Blurb: I feel like Levitating should have been so much bigger than this song.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#4: Ed Sheeran - Shivers

Points: 159,393

Run: Oct 2, 2021 - Feb 12, 2022

Tenure: 20 weeks

Weeks at #1: 14

Blurb: The #1 week record holder probably would have been the biggest song of the decade, if Hits 1 didn't let it flop so hard after it left #1.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

#3: Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile

Points: 169,987

Run: Aug 24, 2024 - Mar 22, 2025

Tenure: 31 weeks

Weeks at #1: 4

Blurb: This was such an underwhelming Lady Gaga comeback ballad. How in the hell did this do so well?

My rating: 4/5 = Good

#2: Tate McRae - greedy

Points: 175,021

Run: Sep 23, 2023 - Mar 30, 2024

Tenure: 28 weeks

Weeks at #1: 11

Blurb: I have no clue how this song ended up being this big.

My rating: 5/5 = Amazing

And now, it's time for the biggest song of the 2020s so far...

#1: Billie Eilish - BIRDS OF A FEATHER

Points: 182,187

Run: Jun 8, 2024 - Mar 1, 2025

Tenure: 39 weeks

Weeks at #1: 3

Blurb: No, the biggest song of the 2020s isn't Blinding Lights, or even Flowers. NOPE! It's BIRDS OF A FEATHER. Seriously, how in the actual hell did one of the most forgettable songs ever made end up being the biggest song of the 2020s? I really hope another song can top this, because I will be very upset if this becomes the actual biggest song of the 2020s.

My rating: 4/5 = Good

Well, that does it for now. Catch you guys later!

Ugh, these past 2 #1 songs have not been great at all. I will talk more about how this song doesn't deserve to be #1 at all later in the blurbs, but for now let's get started.

The Jonas Brothers make their solo return to the countdown in 2 years with Love Me To Heaven. This has grown on me quite a bit. The production is super catchy and the brothers sound great as always. Let's see how well this song can do here.

SZA/Kendrick Lamar - 30 For 30 [2]

Michael Clifford from 5SOS has released his first solo song called cool. Am I crazy or does this song sound very Knox-like? If I didn't know who was singing I would have sworn it was Knox. Cool is a really fun song but this is slightly forgettable.

Everyone's favorite Hits 1 plants Crash Adams are back after Optimist spent a few months in the abyss with Karaoke. This is really fun and is another banger from them. I also really love the key change at the end, but I'm sure Hippo won't be as thrilled with the key change.

Finally Ed Sheeran is back to making upbeat songs. He hasn't made an upbeat song since Celestial in 2022. Azizam is super fun and Ed sounds great. Let's just hope this doesn't get super overplayed and fade on me hard like Eyes Closed did, but I have a feeling it might.

Oh joy, a new Miley Cyrus song that's gonna get overplayed to death. End of the World is fine. The production is upbeat and Miley sounds good, but this is very forgettable.

Knox just released his first album called Going, Going, Gone, and he debuts with the title track. Sadly, Hits 1 did not pick up on the song from it that I really loved called Now & Then. But Going, Going, Gone is still great though. The production is great and Knox sounds great as always.

Because we totally needed 3 Hits 1 plants debuting this week, Hayes Warner is here with Threw Me Away. This kinda sucks. The production is very weird, and her screaming in the chorus doesn't sound that great. I don't see this debuting the countdown any time soon.

Exits:

Ariana Grande - twilight zone [1]

Alessi Rose - IKYK [11]

Dua Lipa/Troye Sivan - Physical [9] [2nd time]

j-hope/Miguel - Sweet Dreams [3]

Knox - 50/50 [3]

Max McNown - A Lot More Free [1]

twilight zone finds itself in the abyss. A Lot More Free sucked so much so I'm glad it only lasted a week. Physical got robbed yet again. Hopefully it comes back but I doubt because I don't believe it's being pushed to pop. Good riddance to IKYK which stuck around way too long. 50/50 got replaced by a much better song from him. And Sweet Dreams was just alright.

Blurbizam:

Just one exit this week - safeword. This was a great song but it was already starting to fade on me after it went #1 on my personal charts, so I don't mind it's gone.

After 2 months, Born Again has finally entered the top half of the countdown.

Haha, Sabrina the Clown's bribes didn't last long and she took a huge drop from #1.

Sports car entered the top 5. Okay, then.

Can Hits 1 please stop screwing over Abracadabra?

Ugh, I did not want to have to rant about the #1 song for a second week in a row, but it looks like I have to. How in the actual hell is I Love You, I'm Sorry #1? How is the most boring ballad in the world and a random non-single #1? This song isn't even a hit elsewhere. At least That's So True made sense at #1 because it went #1 on Mediabase. But I Love You, I'm Sorry has no business being at #1. This is some random non-single that only Hits 1 picked up on. I'm convinced that the commenter on my survey post is right and Gracie paid a bigger bribe to Hits 1 than Sabrina to make her song go #1. Good riddance to this song, let's just hope this has a huge drop from #1 like Bed Chem did.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

Ethan's Top 10 - Selena Gomez & benny blanco (1) - Apr 4, 2025

https://www.crownnote.com/charts/zestpond/ethans-top-10-apr-4-2025

A lot of artists debuted this week that haven't been on my charts in awhile. ROLE MODEL finally makes his chart debut with Sally, When The Wine Runs Out, which took 2 months to grow on me. Dua Lipa is back since Training Season last year. Knox is finally back on my charts after a one year hiatus since Treadmill went #1 last year. Ed Sheeran is back after Eyes Closed spent a few weeks on my charts 2 years ago then faded on me a lot and became one of my least favorite songs of 2023. Lastly, the Jonas Brothers are also back after a 2 year absence since Waffle House 2 years ago.

Selena Gomez scores her first ever #1 on my charts, with Linkin Park not too far behind, who hope to score their second ever #1 on my charts since Lost went #1 back in 2023.
