Charlie Puth (1) - Week Of Sep 24, 2022

Countdown Extra: TWO SUGARS - Tai Verdes

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie between Betty (Get Money) - Yung Gravy and Hold Me Closer - Elton John/Britney Spears (+8). Happy both these songs got such big jumps.

Biggest...DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Late Night Talking - Harry Styles (-14). Oof, I did not expect to see this drop so hard after being #1, especially how much Hits 1 stans Harry, but I'm not complaining.

Last year's #1 song: STAY - The Kid LAROI/Justin Bieber (3/6 weeks at #1)

Favorite song last year: Sheesh! - Surfaces/Tai Verdes

Least favorite song last year: Cold Heart (Remix) - Elton John/Dua Lipa/PNAU

Most missed countdown song: Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia (2013)

Most missed hitbound dropout: WALK THE MOON - Anna Sun (2012)

5 oldest songs:

1: Sunroof - Nicky Youre/dazy (24 weeks)

2: About Damn Time - Lizzo (23 weeks)

3: Bones - Imagine Dragons (23 weeks)

4: Maybe You're The Problem - Ava Max (21 weeks)

5: Late Night Talking - Harry Styles (17 weeks)

Debuts:

Until I Found You is back for some unknown reason, even though it got barely any airplay. This song actually joins a very rare club of songs that entered/re-entered the countdown 3 different times. There's only 3 other songs I could find, Alex Clare - Too Close, Imagine Dragons - It's Time, and Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar. I believe those are all, but please let me know if there's more. Anyways, I still like this song, so I'm glad it's back, even though it makes no sense.

JVKE scores his first song on the countdown with golden hour after This Is What Falling In Love Feels Like dropped out of hitbound a few months ago. After hearing this song a few times on Hits 1, I've warmed up to it a bit. The production is super weird, but kinda vibey, and JVKE doesn't sound too bad.

Lewis Capaldi is back after 2 years with Forget Me. This is certainly way better than his other hits Someone You Loved, Before You Go, and Hold Me While You Wait. The production is good and upbeat. Lewis sounds a little scraggly, but it doesn't hurt the song too much.

Now the best song for last. I thought this song was gone forever after it left hitbound last week, but here it is. It's I’m Good (Blue) by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha. This song is such a banger. It samples the 1998 hit Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65. The production from David Guetta is incredible and Bebe's voice is amazing too.

Hitbound:

Staying Alive - DJ Khaled/Drake/Lil Baby

Best Friends - 5 Seconds of Summer (Debut)

Common - Quinn XCII/Big Sean (Debut)

HEARTFIRST - Kelsea Ballerini (Debut)

STAR WALKIN' - Lil Nas X (Debut)

Unholy - Sam Smith/Kim Petras (Debut)

Sex, Drugs, Etc. - Beach Weather (Debut)

29 - Demi Lovato

Evergreen (You Didn't Deserve Me At All) - Omar Apollo (Debut)

I'm Not Dead Yet - Mike Posner (Debut)

Heaven to Me - Havanna Winter (Debut)

Tripping Over Air - Aidan Bissett

Wrapped Around Your Finger - Post Malone

TWO SUGARS - Tai Verdes

I Remember - Cheat Codes/Russell Dickerson

BILLIE EILISH. - Armani White

5SOS just released their new album 5SOS5, and Hits 1 picked up on Best Friends. This one's pretty upbeat and fun. This is way better than Complete Mess and Me Myself & I.

Quinn XCII is back after 2019's Love Me Less, which I did not really like, so I wasn't super excited that he was back. But this one's actually pretty good. He teams up with Big Sean for Common. Is it just me, or does this sound very similar to sheluvme by Tai Verdes? Anyways, the production's pretty good and Quinn and Big Sean sound good.

Kelsea Ballerini's back with HEARTFIRST. This song sounds very similar to Taylor Swift's old country songs in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Kelsea even sounds very similar to Taylor. I really like the country pop production and Kelsea sounds great.

This next song is incredible. It's STAR WALKIN' by Lil Nas X. The production is fantastic, and Lil Nas sounds great and his flow is incredible.

I guess this next song is the sequel to Holy by Justin Bieber, it's Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. Now Sam has a reputation of being Snoozefest Sam. They make some incredibly boring songs. But this song is anything but boring. The production is super weird, but it kinda slaps. Sam sounds really good here, and Kim doesn't sound too bad either.

Next is someone named Beach Weather with Sex, Drugs, Etc. Apparently they're popular on alt radio, which I don't listen to. This one's alright. The production is just your generic alt song, but their voices sound pretty good.

After the last song, I didn't think we could possibly get a weirder song, but then this song came up. It's Evergreen by Omar Apollo. Yeah, this song really sucks. I looked up this song and it's apparently an alternative/indie/R&B/soul/hip-hop/afrobeats song, which I think describes this song perfectly. This song is just super weird. The production is boring and Omar sounds really bad.

Havanna Winter replaced herself with Heaven to Me. This one really sucks. Rain Rain Go Away was so much better. The production is super boring and Havanna does not sound good at all.

Mike Posner's back baby, and it's a banger! We last saw Mike in 2016 with I Took A Pill In Ibiza, although he did have a hitbound dropout last year with Mamma Always Told Me, which was pretty good. I'm Not Dead Yet is basically a sequel to I Took A Pill In Ibiza, because they both mention "sad songs". I really like the production here. It's kinda AJR-y with the trumpets, which I love. And Mike's voice is great as always. Super excited that Mike Posner is back. Cooler Than Me and Please Don't Go in 2010 were bangers, as well as I Took A Pill In Ibiza in 2016.

I'm Good (Blurb):

We lost Bigger Than Me, SNAP, Devil Doesn't Bargain, and Easy Lover. Devil Doesn't Bargain was terrible, so I'm glad it's gone. I guess Hits 1 doesn't stan Louis Tomlinson as much as Harry, since Bigger Than Me only lasted 2 weeks. SNAP was great and deserved better. Apparently Easy Lover is getting pulled from mediabase, so that's why it's gone, but I wished it could have lasted at least a little while longer.

C'mon,  was dropping in airplay last week, and it jumped 3 spots 😠.

About Damn Time really needs to leave soon before I hate it.

Why did Bones and So Good both jump, they're both super old and annoying.

Sunroof is finally out of the top 5. I guess this means summer is finally over soon.

I Like You, I Ain't Worried, and MFASR both jumped into the top 5. I Like You isn't a bad song, but it's just gotten super overplayed and got kinda annoying. I really want I Ain't Worried to hit #1, but we all know who's really going to hit #1!🤡

Ha ha! Harry The Clown fell 14 spots from #1! That's actually not the biggest fall from #1 in Hits 1 history. That belongs to Fall Out Boy - Alone Together, which fell 22 spots from #1.

Yay, I'm so happy that Left And Right finally hit #1. This song has gotten a little old after hearing it so much, but I still love it. I'm just glad any song that's not by Harry is #1.

That's all for now, see you all next week!

  2. Golden Hour is almost certainly in the abyss, and maybe debuting. Smells Like Me might go to the abyss, or they might pick up a different single off of CHARLIE.
